Madam for America Congratulates Megan Marshall on Her Victory for the Lee's Summit School Board (R7)

Today, Madam for America, the Midwest’s leading organization for Black women in politics, congratulates Megan Marshall on her recent success to the Lee's Summit School Board (R7). Dorothy L. McClendon, Esq., president of Madam for America, released the following statement:

“We are elated that Megan Marshall has won her election, becoming the first African American person ever elected to the Lee’s Summit School Board. Madam for America is proud to have supported her campaign. We know she will bring new leadership, equity and diversity to the Lee’s Summit School Board R7. We are happy that we have the opportunity to elevate the political power of Black women in the Midwest.”

Madam for America, is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to recruiting and training leaders, supporting strong campaigns, and mentoring Black women for public office throughout the Midwest. Since our founding on July 25, 2019, Madam for America has helped women win competitive campaigns – in state and local races – researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. In less than a year in existence, we have helped elect two women to office. In 2020 during COVID-19, we helped one woman make history as the first Black person elected to the Lee’s Summit School Board and we helped one woman to get elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in November 2019, a special election. Since our launch, more women have reached out to Madam for America about running for office laying the groundwork for candidates for local, state and national offices. ###
